La Ferrari F2001, monoposto schierata dal Cavallino nel Mondiale F1 2001, è diventata la monoposto più costosa di sempre.
L’esemplare che ha conquistato il GP di Monte Carlo con Michael Schumacher (numero di telaio 211) è stato venduto all’asta per 7.504.000 dollari (oltre 6,3 milioni di euro). Scopriamo insieme la storia della Ferrari F2001, una delle vetture da corsa più significative di Maranello.
Ferrari F2001: la storia
La Ferrari F2001, progettata dal britannico Ross Brawn e dal sudafricano Rory Byrne per correre nel Mondiale F1 2001, arriva dopo la strepitosa annata 2000 che ha visto il Cavallino conquistare il titolo Piloti con Michael Schumacher dopo un digiuno di ben 21 anni.
La vettura non è altro che un’evoluzione della F1-2000 schierata l’anno prima: alettoni anteriori e posteriori modificati per rispettare i nuovi regolamenti e motore – 3.0 V10 abbinato ad un cambio a sette rapporti – identico. Anche i piloti vengono confermati: il tedesco Michael Schumacher e il brasiliano Rubens Barrichello.
2001
La Ferrari F2001 debutta il 4 marzo 2001 nel GP d’Australia e dimostra immediatamente di essere la monoposto da battere. Nella corsa che vede l’esordio nel Circus di due campioni del mondo – Fernando Alonso e Kimi Räikkönen – e di Juan Pablo Montoya Schumy conquista la vittoria e Barrichello arriva terzo.
In Malesia arriva la doppietta “made in Maranello” (1° Schumacher, 2° Barrichello) e il Kaiser trionfa anche in Spagna, a Monte Carlo (gara impreziosita dalla seconda piazza di Rubens), al Nürburgring e in Francia (corsa che vede Barrichello terzo).
Basta un dato per spiegare il dominio della Ferrari F2001 nel Mondiale F1 2001: già il 19 agosto – grazie alla doppietta in Ungheria – Schumy (1° al traguardo) diventa campione del mondo Piloti e il Cavallino si aggiudica il titolo Costruttori.
Schumacher in Belgio porta a casa la 52° vittoria in carriera e diventa il pilota con più GP conquistati nella storia della Formula 1. La Ferrari F2001 chiude la stagione scendendo in pista nel GP degli USA senza sponsor e con il musetto nero in segno di lutto per le vittime dell’11 settembre e regala l’ultimo successo stagionale a Schumy in Giappone.
2002
La Ferrari F2001 viene schierata anche nelle prime gare del Mondiale F1 2002: vince il GP d’Australia con Schumacher e disputa l’ultima corsa della propria carriera in Brasile con Barrichello (ritirato).
È anche grazie ai risultati ottenuti dalla Ferrari F2001 che il Kaiser e il Cavallino possono festeggiare il trionfo nel campionato Piloti e in quello Costruttori del 2002.
