Jaguar E-Type, una delle auto più sexy del mondo

Gli Anni ’60 sono considerati gli anni d’oro dell’automobilismo: alcuni dei modelli più belli del mondo sono stati disegnati in questi anni, e la Jaguar E-Type è un’auto che merita un posto nella top ten (se non nella top five) nella classifica delle auto più sexy del mondo.
Un cofano lungo, lunghissimo, con una abitacolo arretrato e una linea così armoniosa ed elegante da lasciare a bocca aperta. Dal 1961 al 1975 ne sono stati prodotti più di 70.000 esemplari e tutt’ora è una delle auto d’epoca più ambite dai collezionisti.
La prima serie del 1961 era un’auto avveniristica dal punto di vista meccanico. Montava un telaio monoscocca, quattro freni a disco (una rarità per l’epoca), aveva sospensioni posteriori indipendenti al posteriore e con schema a quadrilateri all’anteriore.
Nonostante la meccanica sofisticata, non era un’auto facile da guidare: il passo corto (240 cm) e la carreggiata strettissima (appena 164 cm) la rendevano particolarmente instabile in curva e difficile da controllare.
La prima serie montava un motore 6 cilindri in linea 3,8 litri da 265 CV, mentre il cambio era un manuale MOSS a quattro rapporti. Nel 1964 la cilindrata venne aumentata a 4,2 litri, e la coppia aumentò del 10%.

La Serie 2
Nel 1968 arrivò la seconda serie della Jaguar E-Type, ma non fu un miglioramento. Per rispettare le normative USA anti inquinamento la potenza venne ridotta e l’erogazione del motore venne resa più fluida.
Anche l’estetica venne penalizzata, con un design dei fari meno accattivante e delle linee meno sinuose della carrozzeria.
Crebbe il comfort di bordo: vennero aggiunti i poggiatesta, i sedili regolabili, il volante rivestito in pelle nera, il servosterzo e il bloccasterzo.

La Serie 3
Dal 1971 al 1975 venne prodotta la terza e ultima serie della Jaguar E-Type. L’ultima evoluzione montava un motore V12 5,3 litri interamente prodotto da jaguar e derivato dal prototipo Jaguar XJ 13.
La potenza prodotta era di 272 CV, ma l’erogazione era dolce e lineare, il che la rendeva un’auto più adatta ad un uso turistico invece che sportivo. Esteticamente la terza serie si distingue per la presa d’aria anteriore “tappata”, i quattro scarichi a ventaglio e i due tergicristalli (al posto dei tre).
